About Us
The Inter-African Coffee Organization (IACO) is one of the oldest intergovernmental organizations in Africa and was established on December 7, 1960 by 11 African Heads of State in Antananarivo, Madagascar. Today, the Organization has 25 producing countries, namely Angola, Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic (CAR), Democratic Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d' Ivory, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Togo, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The IACO groups almost half of African countries and classifies its member states into three main groups based on the variety of coffee produced and exported. Some countries produce and export only Arabica or Robusta, while others produce and export both Arabica and Robusta.
According to Article 9 of the 1998 IACO Agreement, “the Assembly shall meet in ordinary session once a year, normally in a member country”. Thus, in coffee year 2021/2022, Togo will host the annual meetings of the IACO which are composed of:
